Mad Daimoku Productions
Mad Daimoku Productions, Inc. (MDP) was established in 1996 in Los Angeles, California by Joseph Latimore as a vehicle for cinema and the performing arts. The company is currently based in New York City and has produced nineteen (21) movies (19 short, 2 experimental features), one (1) stage play and two (2) live music performances.
In June 2006, MDP acquired a storefront for Sensei, an artspace with an eclectic gallery experience.
The inaugural space was located in an intimate bi-level space at 66 Kenmare Street in NYC’s Nolita/Chinatown district which served as a fantastic kickoff location for the concept which enjoyed a well-received experimental run. And, following a brief hiatus (12/06) Sensei resumes operation at it’s new location: 34 East 1st Street in March 2007 with a roster of new artists and new works by previously featured artists.
In addition, MDP currently has two film projects in production: An Untitled L.E.S. Feature Project to be shot in NYC Summer 2007 and Incidental, a feature project to be shot in NYC and Istanbul late Fall 2007.
Moreover, in a continued effort to uplift and inspire MDP has produced a series of community events, most notably: The L.E.S. End of Summer Jam, a day-long live music celebration which featured performances by 10 local bands held Saturday, August 26th at NYC's East River Park Amphitheater, The Rockin Horror Picture Show, a Halloween event which revolved around an evening of original horror shorts and live performances held at Anthology Film Archives, The 1st Annual Harold Hunter Memorial Basketball Tournament in which funds go toward skate camp scholarships for downtown kids in the name of the famed skater/LES legend Harold Hunter and The Whole Lotta Love Film Fest held February 11th at NYC’s Pioneer Theater featuring original shorts about love and relationships and the Winter Wonder Jam held at the Puffin Room in SOHO on February 27th.
May 2007 kicked off a monthly performance series, The MDP/Sensei Bazaar, held at the
Anthology Film Archives. The first series featured a multiple projection presentation by Sylvain Flanagan, award winning short films by Bosilka Simonovitch and Fabienne Gautier, a dance performance by Megan Byrne and Siri Peterson with original music by Tei Blow and the eclectic soul of Micah.
